Gemsbok Hunting in Texas | Texas Hill Country Exotic Hunts

Few exotic antelope are as instantly recognizable as the Gemsbok.

With long, spear-like horns, bold black-and-white facial markings and a strong gray body, Gemsbok have a dramatic appearance that makes them one of the most visually distinctive species available to hunters in Texas.

Little Paint Creek Ranch offers Gemsbok hunting near Junction, Texas across more than 15,000 acres of Texas Hill Country.

What Is a Gemsbok?

Gemsbok are a species of oryx native to southern Africa.

They are adapted for dry environments and are known for their durability, athletic build and exceptionally long horns. Both males and females carry horns, although mature bulls typically develop heavier horn bases and a stockier body.

Their contrasting facial markings and long, straight horn profile make them easy to distinguish from other exotic antelope.

Why Gemsbok Are Popular With Exotic Hunters

Gemsbok appeal to hunters for several reasons.

Their appearance is unmistakable, their size makes them substantial game animals, and their African origin gives hunters an opportunity to pursue a species associated with classic plains-game hunting without leaving Texas.

A Gemsbok hunt also adds variety for hunters who have already pursued Axis, Blackbuck, Aoudad or native whitetail deer.

Hunting Gemsbok at Little Paint Creek Ranch

Gemsbok hunts may be conducted from blinds, through spot-and-stalk hunting or safari style.

Both rifle and bow hunters are welcome.

Conditions on the ranch determine how the hunt unfolds, with hunters potentially spending time glassing, moving through open areas or positioning themselves around likely travel routes.

The more than 15,000 acres at Little Paint Creek Ranch create plenty of room for hunters to experience different parts of the property during their stay.

A $1,250 nonrefundable deposit is required for all hunts and is separate from applicable kill fees.
