Addax

Addax is an antelope that is native to the Sahara Desert. Also known as the white antelope or screwhorn antelope, they can be found throughout Texas although they are critically endangered in their native habitats. Their horns spiral upwards with two to three twists with males 28-33 inches long and females 22-31 inches with small ridges running the length. The gestation period is around 9 months with the breeding season typically peaking in winter though they will breed year-round. Addax females are smaller than the males weighing in at 130-200 lbs and the males at 220-275 lbs. Their diet is mostly grasses and the leaves of shrubs as they prefer to graze and will only browse as necessary. Addax can be hunted year-round.
